The land of Israel is located in the area of the African Rift Valley, affected by the shifting of the land tablets and by deadly earthquakes. All this forced the ancient people to consider geology. In addition, the country is on the edge of the desert (most of the country, actually), and settlement was adapted to the weather, even then there were huge projects of water transport from long distances. If that wasn't enough, the geographical position of the Land of Israel (the ancients called it "the center of the world") put it between the great powers of the time. Here, the long roads connecting Africa with Europe and Asia, via the sea, the highway, the Way of the Patriarchs , the Spice Route, passed through. Many cultures lived here; Jews, Samaritans, Hasmoneans, Romans, Greeks, Christians, Muslims, Ottoman Mamluks, and British, there are influences on architectural elements that came from Egypt, from Greece and Rome, and later from the Gothic and Romanesque styles. The Land of Israel served as a kind of "laboratory" for the various styles - these exist to this day - in buildings, in art, and in many designs.
Activities
We will see religious architecture (Jewish, Christian, Islamic), military architecture, public building architecture, monumental cemeteries, colonial architecture, private buildings. The different peoples who ruled here brought styles and designs of construction and left a broad stamp. There were also great builders, such as King Solomon, Uziyahu, Hezekiah, Ezra and Nehemiah, Herod, Justinian, Helena, Eudokia, Suleiman the Magnificent, and the Mamluk Nakhchiz, whose amazing influence still exists today. We'll talk about everyone.
We will see how it all began in the period following the agricultural revolution, "The Israeli House". We will tour Arad, Tel Hebron, Caesarea, Acre, Kochav Hayarden, Solomon's Pools, Armon Hanatziv, winter palaces, the Herodion, Tzipori, Ashkelon, Beit She'arim, Ramat Gan, Jaffa. And of course Jerusalem.
The most magnificent structure in the ancient world was probably the temple built by Herod, we will tour the Temple Mount, above the ground and in the tunnels below.
