It's not always good to be in the middle. This was perhaps the central problem in Biblical times, and even today. The geographic location of the Land of Israel was between the ancient empires that ruled the Middle East; Egypt, Syria, Babylon, Greece, Rome, and more. The North-South and East-West transverse roads that connected the great powers crossed through the Land of Israel. Battle sites were usually in the middle, that is, here in the Land of Israel, and the Israeli leadership of those days would debate who to transfer their support to, and highly fateful mistakes were made. We will follow the Biblical journeys of Shishak, Sennacherib, Pompey, and others.
Activities
The kings of Israel and Judah paid a dear personal price for their gambles, or, if you prefer, their wrong estimates. The exile of the ten tribes and the Judean exile are clear examples. At times, the kings of Judah were required to have marital ties with the great powers, for example King Solomon, who married Pharaoh's daughter and received his protection.
We will visit Lachish, Azekah, Gezer, Afek, Mount Megiddo, Mount Tabor, the Sea Road, and Beit Shean. We will devote a special day to Jerusalem on the subject of the wars of Shishak, Sennacherib, and Babylon, as well as the conquests of Greece and Rome.
Isaiah Chapter 36 - Behold you have depended upon the support of this splintered reed, upon Egypt, upon which a man will lean, and it will go into his palm and puncture it; so is Pharaoh the king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
