Geo 2: Geography as a shaper of culture

After breakfast we will start the second day with a focus on the African Rift Valley. Before descending to the fault area we will visit another erosion crater, cross Scorpion's Pass and learn its story, we will visit an ancient fortress built in the days of Solomon, part of the Roman frontier line erected by the Emperor Diocletian to protect the Roman Empire from the south.
This tour is includes the first day of GEO1 tour.
Activities
We will visit the town of Ir Ovot, founded by Evangelical Christian Simcha Perlmutter, and here I will tell the story of the ancient shade tree and the story of a member of my family, Habakkuk Cohen, who fell here.
We will continue to the Israeli Arava, travel along the Peace Road between Israel and Jordan, visit an agricultural settlement and discover how to grow vegetables in the hottest part of the world, and discuss the advantages of the place for the local farmers. We will begin our journey northward, ascend to Mount Sodom to observe the biblical lookout, view Lot's wife, and talk about Sodom and Gomorrah.
During the tour we will talk about the vegetation in the desert, and the animals that have adapted to life here.
On the way home we will talk about the fault phenomenon, the future of the Dead Sea, plans for the development of the region.
